چکیده
Carbon nanotubes tend to collapse when their diameters exceed a certain threshold, or sufficiently large external pressure is applied on walls. The radial stability of tubes has been studied in each these cases, however general theory able predict still lacking. Here, we propose simple model predicting limits as function the tube diameter, number walls and pressure. supported by atomistic simulations, experiments, used plot phase diagrams. We have identified most stable carbon nanotube, which can support maximum ?18 GPa before collapsing. latter was multiwall with an internal diameter ?12 nm ?30 This lowered depending then identify domain mechanical be treated equivalent macroscopic tubes, known described canonical Lévy-Carrier law. multiscale behavior shown good agreement experiments O-rings, proposed parallel this domain.

boron nitride semiconducting zigzag swcnt, $b_{cb}$$n_{cn}$$c_{1-cb-cn}$, as a potential candidate for making nanoelectronic devices was examined. in contrast to the previous dft calculations, wherein just one boron and nitrogen doping configuration have been considered, here for the average over all possible configurations, density of states (dos) was calculated in terms of boron and nitrogen ...

A phase diagram of water in single-walled carbon nanotubes at atmospheric pressure is proposed, which summarizes ice structures and their melting points as a function of the tube diameter up to 1.7 nm. The investigation is based on extensive molecular dynamics simulations over numerous thermodynamic states on the temperature-diameter plane. Spontaneous freezing of water in the simulations and t...

متن کاملASSESSEMENT OF SOIL COLLAPSE PREDICTION METHODS
Expansive and collapsible soils are some of the most widely distributed and costly of geologic hazards. These soils are subject to changes in volume and settlement in response to wetting and drying, often resulting in severe damage to structures. Collapsing soils are generally characterized by sudden and large volume decrease at constant stress when inundated with water. A geotechnical engineer...
